Venice

Our cruise ended in Venice. We originally though that we might get a day on the ship to sightsee before we had to disembark, but they kicked us off the morning we arrived. The ship terminal is very close to the train station, so if one is going on, it's not much trouble. In our case we had arranged for a an AirB&B to stay in Venice for a couple of days. It was a bit of an effort to get from the ship to the apartment, but it wasn't far and we hired a porter to get us over the worst bridge.

Our apartment was in Canneregio, the most northwest of Venice's districts. We were't far from the train station and also close to a vaporetto stop, so getting around is easy. For myself, I like to simply walk around Venice, looking at the people and buildings. We did make a stop at St. Mark's. It's free and the line was short.

Here are some pictures:

Gondola parking. I was surprised to discover there are only 400 licensed gondolas in Venice. Always seemed like more.

Exterior shots of St. Mark's. The most decorated church I've ver visited. No pictures inside (unfortunately).

Canal and street scenes.
