Paul Krugman
writes about the Upton Sinclair effect. It explains, at least in part, how conservatives have been able to reverse themselves on so many issues over the past couple of decades--from health care to deficits. They have no core position (unless it is to make rich people richer). Because they can reverse course so easily, logic and evidence can have no effect on their positions. To paraphrase Mark Twain: "Lies, damn lies and Republican policy."
